I love the movie. I quite like the song. But I haven't had exposure to either in months -- almost certainly over a year.

And yet two mornings in a row, I have woken up with Dennis Brown's "Things In Life" stuck in my head. The song inextricably linked to Chungking Express for me, a movie I've watched almost a jillion times.

Martha and I wandered into the Lloyd Center B&N looking for some crime thriller mass market she was curious about, but we accidentally stumbled upon a sale. All Criterion releases -- DVD, Blu-Ray, box sets, Janus releases, Eclipse sets -- were half-off. I witnessed the birth of a pop culture icon as I watched an animated kids adventure cartoon based on 80s band Wong Kar Wyoming. I couldn't believe that the guy they called Shaggy and the girl that would one day be called Daphne were modeled after the guys in the band in this silly rip off of The Monkees and all those 70s cartoon-band shows like ( Read more... )

I was trying to write something called Quitsville, and I was convinced it was going to be my magnum opus. It was a huge thing for me to get out, expressive of so much stuff. 1. I lost my razor/trimmers. They are in some box when I moved but I couldn't figure out which. I'm well beyond scruffy-faced again.
